This was another workshop that I attended at the College of the Holy Cross. In a nutshell, the presenters covered the fact that the “curriculum is disabled if it’s not reaching all students–not the students themselves”. Library instruction needs to be student-centered and focused around active learning to reach all students. Instructors should consider the multiple learning styles when presenting information and teaching. Most students do not learn auditorally, so lecture-based teaching only reaches some students. I learned that teachers should strive to become the “guide on the side” instead of the “sage on the stage” during my Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary English degree at UNH. I’m always looking for ways to make my instruction more student-centered. It’s a challenge when you’re only given 50 minutes with a class!
